Alison has been designing and building things since she was a child. Her passion ignited when her father designed and built a passive solar home in the 1970’s, when such things were a rarity, and in her teens she found herself volunteering at Habitat for Humanity. She graduated Mount Holyoke College, cum laude, majoring in International Relations, but during that time she found herself increasingly fascinated by fine arts classes, including drawing and sculptural welding; she also continued her passion for garment design, through creating and tailoring of costumes at her college theater department.

After graduation, Alison moved to New York City as a graphic designer, while also studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s prestigious design program, from which she graduated magna cum laude. For the following ten years, Alison created textile designs using cutting edge computer design technologies, both in the apparel industry for such companies as Old Navy, and later in designing gravure engravings for the home furnishings market.

She found that her design skills translated to kitchen interiors when she renovated her 1918 Craftsman bungalow nearly 20 years ago. She designed a period Craftsman kitchen, and when she took her hand drawings to a local kitchen design firm, she was offered a job on the spot. Needless to say, she ultimately took the job.

While she has great proficiency with period restorations in Victorian, Craftsman and other historical homes, she is equally deft with modern design; one of her Mid-Century Modern kitchens appeared on the cover of a national cabinet manufacturer’s catalog.

For Alison, designing kitchens and other interior spaces has been a perfect blend of her passions for design, construction and architecture. Clients laud her ability to patiently listen to their needs, desires and inspirations, and then create a kitchen design far better than they ever imagined.
