Our Philosophy: The Design Begins with You

Canterbury Design is for a special clientele: the individual seeking a custom-designed kitchen interior that raises the quality of their lifestyle. Our professional designers are creative in their use of materials, textures, color and light. They are at their best when working with a client who has a desire to create a wonderful space and is looking to enhance their vision with the insights and imagination of a professional designer.

Our craft is as much about letting your personality shape the kitchen as it is about our design skills, knowledge and unwavering design enthusiasm. At Canterbury Design we will work with you as a trusted advisor – sometimes leading, sometimes following, always orchestrating – to create a great outcome that will exceed your expectations. Not only to make a profound statement about you to everyone who visits your home, but also to remarkably change your lifestyle.

Canterbury Design begins this transformation through a dialogue in which we explore your dreams, culinary passions, and design tastes. We probe, listen, provide expert feedback and then we successfully implement with excitement. Our estimates – both preliminary and those revised based upon any changes during the project – are always based on an agreed upon vision, grounded in detailed drawings and thorough consultation with interior designers, architects, builders, fixture specifiers and other trades. Installation brings it all together in a breathtaking manner.

The Design Process

Complimentary Initial Consultations and Estimate. When you contact Canterbury Design, a designer will schedule an initial meeting at your home, our showroom or project site to present our portfolio of custom-designed kitchens and explain our scope of services. Then we learn about you, review your project goals, the space, and any architectural plans and discuss potential design ideas. Shortly after the initial meeting, our designer prepares a preliminary budget estimate covering cabinetry, countertops, installation and other amenities as discussed in our meeting, so you will have a realistic expectation of the costs before your project begins.

Design Concept. Upon signing of a Design Concept Agreement, we prepare a preliminary plan, elevation and or/hand drawn perspective drawing for built-in shelving, kitchen cabinetry and molding, tile, crown molding and other interior finishes. We will provide appliance recommendations and guide you to retailers who can best explain the features and benefits of each. (A retainer fee of $1,000 is required, applicable to the purchase price)

Design Development. Our project supervisor conducts a personal survey of the room to be remodeled. If new construction or renovation, the room survey will be based on an architect's plan and measurements. Detailed CAD Drawings are then developed. We obtain the specified appliance documentation and engineer the cabinetry to accept the appliances appropriately. We detail the drawings to represent the door styles and framing selected. The designer also reviews the drawings with the client to review the appropriate accessories, (i.e. cutlery, waste bins, rollouts, tilt out trays, dividers, etc.) During this phase we also consult with interior designers, architects, builders, fixture specifiers and other trades. (A Design Development Fee of 10% of purchase price of the cabinetry, less the $1,000 Design Concept Retainer, is required at this time.)

Ordering Custom Kitchen Materials. After the drawings, door styles and finishes are approved by the client and designer, the contract is signed and kitchen cabinetry, hardware, countertops and other materials are ordered by our technical staff.

Installation. Canterbury Design oversees the installation, coordinating the scheduling of the cabinetry so that everything is handled in the proper order and delays are avoided.

Follow Through. We stand behind all our cabinetry lines; they are easily serviceable, down to the finest detail.
